11 tips to get the right job on Naukri.com

People usually doesn't care much about updating their profiles or filling up relevant information on job portals. The following 11 important fields are the key to get the appropriate attention from employers.

1. Resume Headline

This is what employers are going to see first in the job search results. You can have 100-200 letters there. If you are putting less than 60 letters, you are wasting the best opportunity to grab the attention of employers. If you are putting more than 200, Naukri.com is going to strip off the excess portions and that will end up in giving a partial information to the job seeker, which is not at all good. Do not use excessive power words here and try to be more specific and straight. It can have your position name, experience, specialization details etc.

Remember, do not use full capital letters here. It will end up like shouting at your future employer.

2. Your name

Most of the job seekers are providing this information correct. However, there are few who fills up their name field with complete small letters or complete capital letters. Both are not good practices. Please provide your full name here. If you are just giving first name, employer will get a feeling that you are not that much serious about getting a job.

3. Current designation

If your current designation is matching the job you are looking for, it's perfect. Use proper capitalization and keep it simple.

4. Current company

Use proper capitalization and keep it simple. Majority of the employees are filling this field correctly, so it's better not to make an exception there.

5. Experience

Update it regularly or get ready to lose out on the job run. Employers will look at the experience field multiple times before downloading your resume.

5. CTC

You can keep it confidential if you want, but many of the employers simply search for employees with certain range of CTC. Nakuri.com provides a check-box to the employers, so that they can include the job seekers who haven't mentioned their CTC, which is not selected by default. So, you have to be careful there too.

6. Current Location

Almost all the employers wish to have a face-to-face interview with the candidate before recruiting them. If you current location is near to the employer's location, you will naturally get more preference.

7. Preferred location

An usually neglected area. Some employers search specifically for candidates who are ready to work on their location or their client's location. So instead of just selecting few major metro cities, carefully choose the locations which you are comfortable with. Many of the employers does not look for this candidate's preferred location, they will just call and will ask the candidate whether they are ready to work in a specific location or not. But, why taking the chance?

8. Key Skills

Use keywords, tools, software, certification, etc. Employer's search for the right candidate using "key skills" search. When an employer searches for the right candidates by specifying multiple keywords, Naukri runs a special algorithm and those candidates whose skills are matching with employer's demands are showed first. If you are a programmer, don't just put "programmer" in the key skills section. Specify the language names, programming concepts etc.

9. Profile updates

While employers search for job seekers on Naukri.com, it brings up profiles that are updated at least once in past 6 months. This is a practice to ensure that employers are getting profiles of candidates who are actively looking for a job. Most of the employers never make changes in this default search setting. So, if your profile is not updated in last 6 months, you are naturally out of the game.

10. E-mail ID:

Put an E-mail ID here that you really checks regularly. Many people have the habit of creating separate E-mail ID for job searching purposes. This is done to avoid possible spam mails coming from job websites. Over time, people forgets to access this account or the account credentials. Many employers contacts candidates over E-mail to schedule an interview, so you should take extra care here.

11. Phone number:

Many employers wish to directly call the candidate first to ensure whether they are still looking for a job, are they ready to work on new location or to get an general idea about the candidate's basic communication skills. We don't want to miss that call, do we?
