Why Blogger is better than self hosted Wordpress blog

"Google's Blogger or Wordpress" is a often heard discussion among Bloggers. This article tries to find out the advantages on being on a Blogger platform compared to a self hosted Wordpress platform. Please note that this article is discussing about hosting a Wordpress blog on your own/rented server space and not on wordpress.com.

1. Blogger is from Google and you will get benefits of the same

Google owns Blogger. Google leads in the search engine market. Enough said.

2. Less technical to own one

One can set up Blogger blog without having any clue about HTML, PHP or any programming languages or web server management in that matter. The built in template designer is really useful here as anyone can design their blogs very easily.

3. Easy to set up

No need of hunting down for a good host and doesn't have to worry about content delivery networks.

4. Less time to start

Time is very important for all of us. Since Blogger is all set and ready for you to begin, the time spent on installing, customizing and configuring a software is saved.

5. Good spam control

We all hate spam comments. Google is coming with a decent technology that can fight the spam to a convenient level.

Note: It does not means that Wordpress can't fight spam. Give it a spin, do little tweaks here and there with spam control plugins and you can achieve a better spam control mechanism.

6. Security

Google takes care of the server, it's availability, up time and security. If they come across a security issue on Blogger platform, they will take care of it and will fix things up. What if a vulnerability got discovered on Wordpress? They have to come up with a fix and you have to take care of the updating process by going to the administration panel. What if you are not around? What if an add-on developer is slow to respond to security issues?

7. Cost - Initial and maintenance

Apart from the domain name, initial cost is absolute zero for Blogger. The same rule applies for maintenance and future expenses too as Blogger does not require you to pay for hosting space.

8. Traffic

All hosting services out there are coming with a fair usage policy. If the traffic crosses a particular limit or if the number of database connections increases beyond a level, the hosting company will deamnd you to pay extra. Well, not if you are on Blogger as Google will take care of all that for free.

9. Indexing time

All blog posts will take some time to appear on search engine results. If you are using Blogger, this time gap is low and thus can help you to appear in search results more fast.
