Know technologies used behind websites

There are times in our life where we looked at some websites and wondered what all technologies the developer might have used to build it. Which CMS they use, what sort of server they do have. Are they using any Javascript/CSS frameworks? Are they using Flash? The questions are many. Most of the times, the answer can be found by navigating through the source of webpage or with some additional tricks. Well, not anymore.

Wappalyzer is free and open source extensions for Firefox and Google Chrome that can do the task of analyzing page source and headers to reveal the technologies used behind a website. Just install Wappalyzer extensions and you are ready to go.

Wappalyzer can currently detect thousands of web technologies including content management systems, trackers, frameworks, web server, database, hosting panels, issue trackers, maps, operating systems, programming languages etc. Depending on the technologies detected on the web page by Wappalyzer, it shows corresponding icons on the browser.

The Wappalyzer website also maintains a table of detected technologies, their occurrence count and number of websites using that technology. This can help us to find popular/commonly used web technologies.
